Dozens of motorcycle outriders had passed in the previous few minutes, there are helicopters overhead, and here come the riders - about 17 minutes into the race - heading west along the Upper Richmond Road. On the left, Barnes Common, to the right Rosslyn Park rugby ground. It's Saturday morning, and this is the men's event - the women's race is scheduled to pass here in 26 hours' time.
