The Long Street club was built for local factory and office employees. In 2008, the building needed renovation. A group of volunteers set up a committee to find a way of raising the funds to fix the leaking roof and refurbish the interior. In 2009, a registered charity was set up, in part so that donations can be officially received. The hall continues to be known as the Lister Hall, but the whole site, and the charity that runs it, is known as The Chantry Centre.
