This sign is really all that remains on the exterior to show that this building was once a public house. Old trade directories show that it was an inn or pub between 1830 and 1931. A former resident has confirmed it was still trading in 1962. The 1901 census shows several people lodging there. It also shows four other pubs or inns in the street, of which only the Abingdon Inn still exists. The Bird in Hand, Rose & Crown and White Horse have all closed. Image
