The squeeze of the supermarkets shows in yet another shuttered and boarded up hostelry close to the town centre. Even darts, pool, cards, cribbage, live music, pub grub, snacks, curry nights, Sunday carvery and all the associated traditional atmosphere, badinage and banter can't, it seems, compete with cheap, canned beer and lager at supermarket prices. But how many pubs actually had atmosphere, badinage or banter? Some pubs are still very popular at all hours on all days. But they are getting rarer.
