The nameplate on the end-terrace cottage probably doesn't refer to the house itself but the whole street which is named on maps of the 1800s as Acorn Hill. A house lower down is Acorn Villa Image and has a nameplate dated 1879 Image A cobbled path and steps lead from Stockport Road up to Mottram Old Road. Further terraced cottages once stood where the tree now grows on the right.
