The bridge that carries St Peter's Way (the A6009 dual carriageway) over Rock Valley. Behind the photographer is Pelham Street and to the left, on this side of the bridge, is the stretch of the Rock Valley road that runs towards the town centre. The main entrance to the former Metal Box factory site can be seen beyond the bridge. Barringer, Wallis and Manners company manufactured tinware products here until they were subsumed into the Metal Box Company in 1939. When Metal Box plc ceased using the site, the premises were bought by Crown Speciality Packing, although they have now moved elsewhere. Most of the buildings were demolished in 2011 leaving the clock tower standing alone. On 23 October 2023 the local planning committee passed a development application for 27 bungalows and 47 apartments in two blocks, one on each side of the clock tower, on this site.
