Reputedly built in 1650 the thatched roof survived an edict in Wantage, to replace all thatch with tiles, only because the border of Wantage ended where Letcombe Brook cuts across Mill Street. Thus The Lamb, on the other side of the border in a hamlet called Littleworth, was outside that jurisdiction. See also: http://www.lambinnwantage.co.uk/about.htm
