Abbeyfield is situated in the cathedral close and now comprises sheltered accommodation. The building itself dates from 1862-4 and was described by Pevsner as "completely insensitive to the demands of the E view of the cathedral, a fact that diverts one from appreciating that it is a good house of its time".
