A train from Hadfield approaching Glossop Station. When the line between Manchester & Sheffield was built in the early 1840s the route chosen bypassed Glossop and went through Dinting to Hadfield and the Woodhead Tunnel. The railway company refused to build a branch line from Dinting to Glossop so the 13th Duke of Norfolk financed the building himself in 1844. The electrification of the line in 1954 meant the end of the need to change at Dinting to get to Glossop. http://www.glossopheritage.co.uk/railways.htm
