Old Border Counties Railway and High Thorneyburn

The Border Counties Railway, opened 1862, ran from Hexham to Riccarton Junction. It was closed to passengers in 1956, and for freight in 1958. The line of the railway can be seen on the far side of the flower-rich hay meadow.
