Pronounce it correctly as 'Broom Street' and people look at you askance, because over time the spelling has given rise to the pronunciation 'Broaham Street'. It was named in honour of the great Liberal reformer, Henry Brougham (1778-1868) whose title was Baron Brougham and Vaux, pronounced Broom and Vokes.
