The Tring exit on the westbound A41 marks the start of one of the oddest pieces of motorway ever built in the UK: the A41(M) Tring bypass. Downgraded to an "A" road as early as 1987, the full story is available here: http://www.pathetic.org.uk/former/a41m/ .
