The imposing house is a grade II listed building http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-296694-andertons-uckfield and although it appears to be just one house, it is actually divided into Church House (whose entrance is through the portico) and Andertons (whose entrance is at the other end of the building). Beyond is the church of The Holy Cross.
