The sign at the eastern end of the very narrow Tavern Lane reads: BOROUGH OF STRATFORD-UPON-AVON TAVERN LANE NO COACHES OR MOTOR VEHICLES UNLESS REQUIRING ACCESS TO PREMISES IN THE LANE I am not sure of the legal position regarding an old sign such as this. There was no evidence of its modern counterpart. The telegraph pole was leaning some way off vertical.
