The rear gate of Marlborough Hall that once provided a link between the house and the grassed area surrounding Bellevue covered reservoir. William Lambert, a wealthy lace dresser, lived here for some years. He was one time Chairman of the Public Parks Committee and during his tenure some of the jewels in Nottingham’s crown, including the Trent Embankment, Vernon and Victoria Parks, Lenton and Radford Recreation Grounds, etc., were created. Lambert was Sheriff of Nottingham in 1860, Mayor in 1874 and 1885 and he ended his days at Lenton Firs in 1905 where he died at the age of 82 yrs. It seems that the hall has also served as a convent and a sanatorium and although some consideration was once given to converting it into a Hall of Residence, it is currently in a vandalised state. Its main entrance is on Mapperley Road.
