In spite of the chilly weather quite a crowd attended the Newtown Chamber of Trade Diamond Jubilee celebrations in the High Street. Both ends of the street were blocked off to traffic, with a stage at The Cross end hosting various musical entertainments and a bouncy castle and street organ at the Back Lane end. Tables and chairs were laid out on the street itself and various stalls lined the pavements on both sides, making actual access for anyone with mobility problems (or even a pushchair) a little tricky. Meanwhile the local Carnival Trust had laid on further entertainment in the Park, including more live music in a marquee outside the town hall.
