There's clearly a story as to why Kathleen Mary Slater 1951-2002, was buried in a long plot off a minor road near Foolow, prominently featuring a donkey. I don't know it! Of course Christ rode on a donkey as a sign of humility, maybe that's it? John Francis Slater (Yaes), 1927-2008, is also buried here, presumably father of Kathleen. What does Yaes* signify, another surname? *Thanks to a family member spotting this picture Yaes is now explained. The old gentleman built the dry stone wall surrounding the plot where his daughter had liked to sit on the rocks as a girl, and she loved donkeys. It seems he had a sense of humour, and when he said 'yes' he'd say it like 'yeas' - and that's how he got his nickname, Yeas it was!
