According to Dendy Marshall's 'History of the Southern Railway' the station was opened in 1885 under the name 'Oxshott and Fairmile'. The original operators would have been the London & South Western Railway, succeeded by the Southern Railway in 1923 and by the Southern Region of British Railways in 1948. The present operators are South Western Trains. The two-storey structure at the far end must originally have been the stationmaster's house.
