A mix of renovated and new buildings just upstream from the old Dean bridge with the Victorian New Town behind. "After examining the situations near the Castle I went along the road to Queensferry which is west from the Castle, and after walking over a beautiful situation at abt. 1/2 a mile from the Castle where the Earl of Moray has a House, and a small tract of ground which he has laid out neatly, and passed a walk through, I was surprised to find myself on the banks of a dell at the bottom of which runs a Brook called Leith water. It is very romantic, particularly near some mills where a Bridge is thrown over a stream that is a little below." -- Joseph Farington, English landscape painter, 1788
