Rivington Service Area, Southbound M61

Now in its third incarnation, the Rivington Service Area on the M61 was originally built in 1971 and opened as "Anderton Services", later renamed "Rivington" and then "Bolton West". After years of criticism, during which Bolton West was dubbed as the worst service station in the country in an online survey of motorists (http://motorwayservicesonline.co.uk/Rivington - Motorway services.co.uk and http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/1345257_bolton_west_services_on_m61_made_famous_by_peter_kay_voted_worst_in_the_uk - Manchester Evening News), the services were acquired by Euro Garages in 2009. They have also reverted to the name Rivington.
