A view from the rear of Fountain Precinct (a small city garden) looking out into Barker's Pool (a city square). The garden was named after a fountain that used to exist in nearby Fargate. The garden was developed on the site of the former Grand Hotel (1917-71), that boasted Sheffield's first American bar. The red metal and glass building opposite is the structure that Prince Charles once described as "a monstrous carbuncle on the face of the fourth city of England". It was originally built as an Odeon cinema on the site of the former Gaumont cinema but later became The Kingdom nightclub. Its present use is unknown to the photographer. Opposite 1987-94 r
