Fountain Precinct, in one corner of Barker's Pool (a city square), is a garden named after a fountain that used to exist in nearby Fargate. The garden was developed on the site of the former Grand Hotel (1917-71) that boasted Sheffield's first American bar. The 12ft high stainless steel statue "Horse and Rider" was created by David Wynne in 1978 and was a gift from the family of Hyman Stone, a local solicitor, in his memory. Unfortunately the piece is overshadowed by the massive office development behind it.
