The name of this pub reflects the long history of the woollen blanket manufacturing industry in Witney, which continued from the Middle Ages until the closure of the last factory in 2002. In the early medieval period, the Worshipful Company of Weavers controlled the weaving trade in London. They were in existence by 1130 and still exist today, as one of London's livery companies or guilds. Image
