The Courtyard Theatre was the RST's temporary home during the transformation of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. "It provided a full-scale working prototype for the new RST's thrust stage auditorium, seating approximately 1,045 audience members..." It was built on the site of The Other Place, the RSC's home for new and experimental work. The Courtyard Theatre has re-opened to provide performance space for the World Shakespeare Festival, part of the Cultural Olympiad in 2012.
