An article in an October 1993 issue of Construction News stated that Paddington Churches Housing Association (PCHA) had agreed to refurbish Rutland Park Mansions, claimed to be Europe's largest squat, after months of protests by residents against demolition. The facade was preserved whereas the interior was rebuilt. A PCHA plaque on the side of the building records that the refurbished mansions were opened by Nick Raynsford MP on July 22nd 1996.
