The roof of the house to the left roughly marks the location of the village's former windmill. The post mill was constructed in 1824 on the site of a previous mill that had burnt down and continued in operation until 1892 when that too suffered the same fate as its predecessor. Local contemporary gossip believed the fire was deliberate. The rough track is Mill Lane which is the old route east out of East Hoathly that heads towards the neighbouring village of Chiddingly.
