The Rhymney Brewery which commenced in 1839 was near to this location but no trace of it now remains. It was acquired by Whitbread in the 1960s and was closed and demolished in 1978. The first manager was Andrew Buchan and he was commemorated by a clock at the entrance to the brewery. The clock can now be seen on a nearby building http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2967486 .
