Jordanston is a sparsely populated, scattered, rural parish but in earlier times there were a couple of welltodo gentry families, hence this imposing residence provided for the rector's family. The Topographical Directory of Wales for 1833 stated: "The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of St. David's, rated in the king's books at £6.3.9., endowed with £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of G.G. Vaughan, Esq."
