Ballard Memorial, Colwall

The memorial to engineer Stephen Ballard is erected above the railway tunnel he had built beneath the Malvern Hills. The tunnel opened on the 12th of June 1861. Stephen Ballard was born on 5th of April 1804 and died on 14th November 1890. The names of other Ballards are included on the memorial including Fred Ballard who pioneered the use of concrete and was author of "Concrete for house, farm, & estate."
