May well be the remnants of Halland House built in 1595 to replace Laughton Place as the principal seat of the Pelham family. The house was dismantled after the death of the Duke of Newcastle in 1768 and the family moved to Stanmer House near Brighton. Halland Park Farmhouse which lies out of shot to the right was built in 1770 though utilising parts of the old mansion in its construction.
