The building was possibly connected with the Stanleyburn Drift Mine situated behind the wall to the east. The coal mine was in operation from 1950 to 1965. http://www.dmm.org.uk/colliery/s030.htm The 1961 1:2500 OS Map shows one or two small buildings here, named Stanley Burn Cottages.
