One of 274 Taff Vale Railway locomotives acquired by the GWR in 1922, 'Swindonized' and renumbered, No. 281 is a former Class O4 0-6-2T (built 8/1910 as TVR No. 8, withdrawn 8/50). In 1947, Abercynon Depot (CV.AYN in the Cardiff Valleys Division) had an allocation of 28:- 23 0-6-2T, 4 0-6-0T and one 2-4-0T.
