Demolition works in progress at the Falmouth Beach Hotel

There was a disastrous fire at the hotel on Monday 30 April 2012, caused by a flame from a bitumen boiler whilst works were being carried out on one of the balconies. The fire was fanned by force 8 winds coming straight off the sea and, although the Fire Brigade was on the scene very quickly, the wind made it difficult to control the hose jets. It took about 10 hours for 10 appliances and about 100 firefighters to get the fire under control, by which time the building was almost gutted.
