The depot in the background was part of a marshalling yard for nearby opencast coal workings. By this date (1990) it appears to have been used as a track maintenance depot: locos of classes 20 and 26 were present. The coal workings are now exhausted and mostly reclaimed, and the shed has since been demolished.
