Pool on Highfield Moss SSSI - a small surviving remnant of mosslands which once occupied much of South Lancashire/Cheshire; now managed by Lancashire Wildlife Trust. As a semi-natural pond, it contrasts with the many thousands of man-made ponds (typically marl-pits) in the region.
