View northward, towards Gloucester, etc.: ex-GW and LMS main lines to Standish Junction, Swindon, Bristol etc. - see others scenes for route details. This Class D freight is probably bound for the Swindon line from South Wales, headed by Collett '2884' class 2-8-0 No. 3837 (built 1/42, withdrawn 7/65). This very useful class, dating back 40 years, was still being perpetuated during the War for the great increase in freight traffic.
