A cottage blocks the way through to the Queen's Park from Milton Street. I assumed at first that it must predate the street, but since the building materials are the same as the adjacent tenements, I think it must have been a way of keeping horses and carts out of Her Majesty's backyard (the street-end borders the open old parade ground west of Holyrood Palace).
