An interesting little corner of Edinburgh where Victorian tenements were built in the mid-1890s in the former grounds of the Green House mansion, known as Comely Gardens. The old precinct wall has survived, behind which stands a cottage that terminates the street. It was from the Gardens that James Tytler made his pioneering hot-air balloon flight on 27 August 1784 (one year after the Montgolfier Brothers), landing half a mile away in the village of Restalrig.
