This large United Reformed Church is at the corner of St George's Road and Higher Bridge Street in Bolton. The church was founded in 1863 as St George's Road Independent (later Congregational) Church. The church's website contains a history (http://www.stagurc.com/History/Heritage%20Booklet.pdf ) of the church. A line-drawing of the building shows that there was originally a spire on top of the tower. A photograph, dated 1936, shows that this was in existence at least until that date. The church is Grade II listed (http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-476253-united-reformed-church-of-st-andrew-and- British Listed Buildings).
