Comparison of Google Earth images with current OS maps show that until quite recently this body of water was substantially larger - extending further to the south-east than it now does. Much of this pool is fringed with reeds. Last year's growth shows golden-brown in the late afternoon light, in contrast to the green of this spring's growth, in the foreground.
