Established in 1670 on the then main road out of the Cliffe suburb of Lewes. It also is the headquarters of the Cliffe Bonfire Society one of five major societies that participate each year in the Lewes Bonfire celebrations. Malling Street is now a back street having been the main A26 up to 1980 the road itself has now been blocked and forced to veer west over an area once occupied by wharves and factories.
