The side and rear elevation of the Hucknall & District Orthopaedic Clinic from Belle-Isle Road. The clinic was built in 1929 on land donated by Sir Julien Cahn (1882-1944) the entrepreneur, philanthropist & cricket supporter and 1st Baronet of Stanford-upon-Soar. It was built for the benefit of Hucknall residents with funds raised by public subscription and still provides physiotherapy services for patients from Hucknall and its catchment area including Bulwell and Eastwood. At one point Cahn lived in Papplewick, a village just a few miles from Hucknall. There have been several attempts to close it down on the grounds that it is not cost effective. Another argument put forward against keeping it open was that there was a shortage of parking space. As a result a disused garage at the rear of the premises was demolished in order to provide space for another dozen cars.
