The following, from a work on heraldry, describes the coat of arms (note that "gadge" was an alternative Scots spelling of "gauge"): "Or, three crescents gules in the honour point an annulet of the second surmounted of a crescent of the first. Crest – a hand drawing a semi-circle with a compass proper. Motto – Gadge and measure."
