The name Melrose Gait on this signboard for the proposed 500-home housing scheme at Easter Langlee in Galashiels has proved controversial with some councillors and residents of Galashiels and Melrose who objected to the name because Melrose is 4km away. The developers Persimmon Homes have agreed to rename the site with Ellwyn Glen, the valley to the east, being the likely alternative. Work on the first phase of the development, which includes 140 houses, a square and a village shop, has already commenced. The sign is near the site entrance on the C77 Langshaw road.
