View eastwards, towards England: ex-GWR South Wales main line, showing the Down main platform at Newport as it was before the major alterations of 1961. The 08.12 from Newcastle has come via York, Sheffield, Birmingham New Street and Gloucester - where the WR locomotive has taken over, due Cardiff 16.35. The locomotive is Collett 4-6-0 No. 4918 'Dartington Hall' (built 3/29, withdrawn 6/63).
