A well preserved example of medieval architecture. The gateway, the only surviving one of the original mediaeval town gates of Sandwich, dates in part from c.1384 and is listed grade I (List Entry Number 1069601) and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The cobbled, narrow street leading to it is very evocative, one can almost see the fishermen (or their wives) bringing the catch back up from the river.
