Long Bennington achieved a degree of prosperity in the eighteenth century when the Great North Road passed through. The result was the construction of several substantial houses of which this is one. It is unusual in being rendered and having a slated roof whereas the typical house of the period in the village is usually of red brick (occasionally with some blue lias stonework) and pantiles.
