This was painted by Joseph Richardson of Warcop. He has painted several inn signs in Cumbria. For the Shepherds Inn the owners chose as a subject a photograph of a shepherd, Albert Bonsfield Teasdale, which won a photographic competition in the Church Times in 1936. The painting had to be done twice - as the sign has two sides.
