Originally a Jacobean farmhouse, Ascott was bought and remodelled by one of the Rothschilds in the 19th century, and is now a National Trust property. The house is on a modest domestic scale, in contrast to Waddesdon Manor, the grand Rothschild residence near Aylesbury.
