When my grandmother lived in Prospect House in the 1890's her father owned a timber yard near here. From their windows they could see ships unloading Wallsend coals and other cargoes at the quay. Her brothers built their own yacht to sail on the Solent - and possibly round the Isle of Wight. Today, there are thousands of yachts in this area. These properties are now listed buildings.
